Time Heals All Wounds. Or Does It?



Time heals all wounds. It?s a common saying, one we hear all the time, especially after some significant trauma or loss. Just give it some time, they say. It'll feel better eventually.

But does it?

Or do we just get better at ignoring it and pushing things down? Better at suppressing and pretending we're ok... when deep down, we're not.

 

If I had a physical wound, like a broken bone, we all know time alone won?t be enough to heal it. It needs resetting, nurturing, rest and the right environment.

So why do expect emotional wounds to be different? 



What REALLY Happens When We Ignore Our Hurts?


It didn?t work that way for me.

Time seemed to make my wounds (hurts, stress, traumas, pains ? whatever label you want to put on them) feel worse. Not the actual initial hurt itself, but the impact of suppressing and ignoring them.

 

The ever-building overwhelm, the irrational sparks of anger and rage, the apathy and lethargy and life just feeling so darn hard ALL THE TIME!

 

Can you relate? I?m sure it?s not just me!

 

Unhealed trauma doesn?t just vanish with time. It settles into your physical being. Into your muscles and your organs. It becomes stress, overwhelm, anxiety or dis-ease. First, it whispers: achy joints, acne, digestive discomfort, tension. But left unchecked, it can develop into serious illness.

 

If our body isn?t in a state of ease, it will develop into a state of dis-ease.

 

Just like physical wounds, emotional pain needs space, acknowledgement, and the right guidance to heal. It needs to be felt, nurtured, loved and supported in the right environment. 

 

During my depression, I didn?t truly understand how much childhood trauma was contributing to my current stress and overwhelm, making every day feel difficult. It?s something I?ve learnt over time. So maybe - maybe - time helps... but only when used wisely.


If Time Doesn't Heal, Then What Really Does?


Time AND conscious, active participation in my own healing is what has healed me.

True healing doesn?t happen by accident. It's a choice, a choice that takes commitment. But it can happen. If it can for me - from a dark, depressed, overwhelmed space - then so can you.
